Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has pledged to increase the budgetary allocation to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund by a billion in the coming financial year.

Ruto made the commitment on Thursday during a meeting with woman representatives from all 47 counties at State House, Nairobi. The fund will now be Sh3 billion after the increase. NGAAF chief executive officer Roy Sasaka thanked the President for his commitment to addressing the plight of affirmative groups, including women

“On behalf of NGAAF, I wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the government under the leadership of President William Ruto for pledging to increase NGAAF allocation,” he said.

He said it is the government’s reaffirmation of its commitment to advance women’s agenda in Kenya. NGAAF is managed by woman representatives who use it to better the lives of the vulnerable and affirmative groups in the counties.

Ruto further urged the woman representatives to stay put and fully play their role in Parliament. He also told the legislators to be flag bearers in promoting local manufacturers when acquiring sanitary towels.

“I also urge you to step up and help in the fight against teenage pregnancies and female genital mutilation,” the President said.
