Africa-Press – Kenya. Oburu Oginga Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader/FILEOrange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga has outlined an ambitious plan to expand the membership, with a strong focus on attracting young people, as the party holds its National Delegates Convention at Jamhuri Grounds.
Speaking shortly after arriving at the venue, Oburu said the party is prioritising grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement as part of efforts to reposition itself for the future.
“We want to recruit more members. This is the party for the future. We want more members, particularly the GenZs. We want them to join us,” Oburu said.
Oburu emphasised that expanding the party’s support base will be central to strengthening its national footprint, noting that the recruitment drive is aimed at building a more inclusive and forward-looking political movement.
The ODM leader’s focus on Gen Z comes at a time when political parties are recalibrating their strategies to appeal to first-time voters and digitally savvy youth, many of whom remain sceptical of traditional political structures.
At the same time, the National Delegates Convention is expected to play a key role in shaping the party’s direction, including ratifying leadership positions and setting the agenda ahead of upcoming political contests.
Oburu’s message underscores ODM’s intention to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving political landscape, with youth mobilisation seen as a critical pillar in securing its future influence.
The recruitment push is also to involve intensified outreach campaigns, both on the ground and through digital platforms, targeting young Kenyans across the country.
As delegates gather for the convention, the emphasis on growing membership and engaging younger generations reflects the party’s broader effort to consolidate its base while adapting to shifting political dynamics.
