Africa-Press – Kenya. Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has said President William Ruto can buy all legislators allied to the opposition, but not Kenyans. According to the former Justice minister, the few who will remain loyal to the opposition will return the country to the right trajectory. Karua who spoke in Busia questioned why the president was allegedly buying legislators if he was legitimately elected into office.
“Huwezi kuendelea kutumia mali ya wakenya kununua wabunge. Kama wewe ulichaguliwa kwanini huna wabunge wa kutosha? lakini kama umenyakua kiti kinguvu unajua bunge imejaa Azimio na ndio umeanza kutoa pesa na kununua watu. Utanunua wabunge lakini huwezi nunua hawa wananchi wote. Wale tutabaki turudishe nchi yetu,” she said.
This loosely translates to, “You cannot continue using the country’s resources to buy MPs. If you were elected why don’t you have enough legislators? You took leadership by force and you know parliament has Azimio MPs that’s why you are using money to buy people. You can buy MPs but you can’t buy all Kenyans.”
The President has been meeting MPs allied to the opposition, some of whom have pledged loyalty to him and vowed to work with the head of state. The move was seen as part of the President’s strategy to counter opposition chief Raila Odinga who is on a war path holding ‘anti -Ruto resist’ rallies.
Ruto criticised his arch-critic Raila for castigating opposition MPs who visited him at State House and pledged allegiance to Kenya Kwanza. The President, responding to Raila who has called the lot traitors, said elected leaders need no permission from anyone to meet him for any matter concerning Kenyans.
