Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has declared vacancies in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. In a Gazette notice released on Tuesday, February 14, Ruto said the positions of chairperson and five commissioners are vacant.
The positions were left vacant following the end of the six-year tenure of chairman Wafula Chebukati and Commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye. The Commission is currently under the management of the secretariat.
The President is expected to pick the IEBC selection panel in accordance with the IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The seven members will be picked from the Parliamentary Service Commission and the Inter-Religious Council, where each will forward two names to the panel. The Political Parties Liaison Committee, Law Society of Kenya and Public Service Commission will share the remaining three slots.
