Africa-Press – Kenya. Embattled Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni has welcomed the decision of the court to stop the leadership change at the party. Kioni and the pro-Uhuru Jubilee members sought bar orders from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal after the party NEC suspended him and two others from party leadership.

“We want to thank those within the Judiciary who still believe that there is a country and institutions must be free and fair,” he said. He was addressing the press during a briefing at the Jubilee headquarters at Dik Dik, Lavington on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Kioni and three others including vice chairman David Murathe secured the orders barring the Registrar of political parties from effecting their suspension.

“It is hereby ordered that pending inter-parties hearing and determination of the application, interim conservatory orders are issued staying the Office of the Register of Political Parties’ decision to the effect that Jubilee party NEC meeting was properly convened,” Kioni read out part of the order.

“…And further staying any consequential action by ORPP towards effecting, adopting or ratifying the resolutions of the meeting.” During a meeting happening on February 10, Kioni was suspended as the secretary general.

Kagwe Gichohi and David Murathe were also ousted as the national treasurer and national vice chairman respectively by a Jubilee faction led by Eala MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege. The three were respectively replaced with Kega, Rachel Nyamai and Adan Keynan.
