Africa-Press – Kenya. Kisii Governor Simba Arati condemned the Saturday skirmishes pitying two political factions that occurred in Kisii streets. At least ten people were injured during the violent confrontations between the Pro-Azimio and Pro-Kenya Kwanza youth.
The skirmishes have since been condemned by Azimio leader Raila Odinga during the Kisumu rally. The ODM youth had their offices located inside the Kisii County Assembly precincts overrun and vandalized during the running battles.
One officer was injured as the youth pelted stones. Governor Arati paid a night visit to the injured at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he condemned the incident. He said he has already asked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to probe the street scuffles and bring the culprits to book.
“I have heard that the person leading the protests and attacks has several arrest warrants hanging on his head already. I want to know on whose bidding is he doing all these,” stated Arati.
He said he was optimistic Kindiki was up to the task to end the attacks between the two political factions. If the government will not take action, said Arati, then he will personally take charge and ensure the lives of the residents and their property are protected.
“As a governor, I will do everything in my power to ensure such madness is addressed once and for all,” Arati told journalists.
Dr Marita Atebe, the lead doctor treating the patients, said one of the ten injured in the clashes may require to be transferred to a different hospital.
“We are undertaking assessment and if it warrants that he is transferred for specialized treatment, we shall make proper arrangements,” said Marita.
