Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya team retained their title at the just concluded Africa Region Four Golf Championships played at the Par 71 Addis Ababa Golf Club in Ethiopia. The team, comprising captain Dennis Maara, Michael Karang, John Lejirma and youngster Elvis Muigua, fired a total of three under par to complete the championships with (+12) 864.

The quartet kept the title for a second consecutive year despite facing tough opposition from rivals Uganda. In the four-day annual tournament that teed off on Wednesday, team Kenya rolled in two under par 210 to feed off rivals Uganda who managed 217 for a total of (+34) 886.

Rwanda was third at (+70) 922, while the hosts managed fourth position at (+72) 924. Tanzania tailed at (+99) 951). Kenya trailed Uganda on the opening day but picked up the mantle in the second round on Thursday and Friday, opening the lead at the summit on their way to glory.

The five nations played stroke play because of the odd number of teams that participated in the absence of Burundi, who withdrew from the annual tournament.

Karanga, the best Kenyan on the course, won the individual title after firing four under 68 in the final round for a total of (-4) 280 to reign supreme. Lejirma finished second with (+1) 285 in 78, 67, 70 and 70 in the four-round.
