Africa-Press – Kenya. Shabana FC failed to retake the top position in the National Super League (NSL) after being held to a barren draw by rivals Gusii FC on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium, Kisii.

League leaders Muranga Seal dislodged Shabana at the top after a 2-1 victory over Naivas in the midweek fixture.

A win for the Sammy Okoth charges could have taken Shabana two points ahead of Muranga. In the 27th minute, Isaac Otieno was fouled inside the box and Shabana were awarded a penalty which Peter Ongechi shot wide.

The game went to the break barren despite Shabana dominating the half. In the second half, things were similar.

Shabana had much of the ball and piled pressure on Gusii in search of the opener. The strong defensive wall was unbreakable and the game ended in a 0-0.

In another fixture played on Sunday, MCF registered a 1-0 victory over Coastal Heroes at the Machakos Stadium courtesy of a 32nd-minute goal from James Mutuku that settled the tie.

In another game on Sunday, SS Assad secured their 10th win this season after seeing off visiting Vihiga United 1-0 courtesy of Benjamin Nyamwayi’s goal in the 55th minute.

Kisumu All-Stars also recorded a narrow 2-1 victory against Naivas while third-placed Migori Youth were handed a 2-0 walkover after their opponents—Kibera Black Stars—failed to honour the fixture.

Murang’a Seal sit top of the table with 61 points level with Shabana but with a better goal difference.

However, Shabana have a game in hand. Migori Youth and Mara Sugar follow in third and fourth places respectively both on 50 points apiece with the former having a better goal difference.

Matchday 28 will continue this afternoon (3 pm) with two fixtures scheduled to take place. Kajiado FC play Mwatate United at Ildamat Stadium, Kajiado while Silibwet Leons will take on Mara Sugar at Silibwet Green Stadium, Bomet
