Ooro, Madigu set to return ahead of National Sevens circuit

Africa-Press – Kenya. Strathmore Leos are gearing up for an explosive return to the National Sevens Circuit after two Kenya Sevens internationals, George Ooro and Brunson Madigu rejoined the squad.

Madigu made a spectacular debut in the World Sevens Series when he scored his first try at the iconic Los Angeles Sevens. Ooro, on the other hand, has established himself as a regular for Shujaa as he constantly featured for the side in the recently concluded World Sevens Series.

Strathmore Leos head coach, Louis Kisia relished the duos’ comeback, saying: “Ooro and Madigu will be back with the team before the opening leg in Kisumu and they bring a wealth of much-needed experience. We had a very energetic start in last season’s circuit that was followed by a rocky finish due to the lack of experience in the squad as most of the players were still rookies.”

The Leos’ triumph at the Embu Sevens, where they fiercely defended their title at the Njukiri Show ground only added to the team’s confidence and readiness for the upcoming circuit.

“The players have showcased unwavering commitment during the pre-season as they have been working very hard both in the gym and on the field and this has instilled a sense of belief in me that we are primed for success in the circuit,” Kisia revealed.

“We have set our sights on finishing at least second in the overall National Sevens Circuit standings, surpassing last season’s commendable third-place finish,” he added.

Kisia was much obliged to the Kenya Rugby Union noting, “KRU have given us ample time to make preparations for the circuit as the pre-season is nine weeks long in contrast to last season’s four weeks. We will use the remaining three weeks to fine-tune our strategies and tactics.”

On new signings, the Leos tactician stated they have not had any significant additions to the team apart from Nygel Amaitsa and Gabriel Ayimba who joined earlier in the year from Western Bulls and Kenya Harlequins respectively.

Nygel Amaitsa was notably named as the tournament Most Valuable Player at the Embu Sevens, where the Leos trampled the Menengai Cream 26-0 in the final to retain their title.
