MMU focus on promotion as race to the top tier intensifies

Africa-Press – Kenya. Multi-Media University (MMU) coach Joseph “Selector” Ondinyo said his focus this year is to join the Kenya National Basketball League next year. The varsity side, who are so far the only unbeaten team in the 28-team Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) men’s Provincial League, have what it takes to move.

“The team is fine. We are working really hard and our target is to make it to the national league,” Ondinyo offered.

“Last year, we made it to the NBA semi-finals and this time, we feel we have a squad that can take us all the way to the top this time.” Ondinyo said what has helped the team perform so well this year is their energy to move from defence to offence in a flash.

“Our defence has been the key to our good run. We are pressing well and we get a lot of rebounds from defensive stops and initiate,” he said.

MMU beat Kicks Kenya 54-42 over the weekend to move to the second slot in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from eight games. Leading the conference is Old Pirates who have 17 points from 11 matches after dismissing Kitengela Raptors 64-46.

Vikings are topping the Western Conference with 19 points despite going down 44-43 to the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (Nibs) Panthers. Kivuli lie second with 15 points followed by Dagoretti High School who have amassed 14. In the ladies category, Dream Girls are at the summit with 24 points from 12 games followed by Titans, who have 19.
