Odhiambo vows to catapult Homeboyz to victory in last KPL match

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo has vowed to catapult his charges to a thrilling conclusion in their final Kenyan Premier League match against Bidco United on Sunday.

Homeboyz will look to cap off their season with another master-class act after stunning 19-time champions Gor Mahia 3-2 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani in an enthralling midweek fixture on Wednesday.

Odhiambo reckons he has restored a winning mentality to the side and, most importantly, helped rediscover the confidence that had plummeted following a torrid start to the season.

Formerly with Tanzanian Premier League minnows Biashara United, Odhiambo joined Homeboyz in March after Bernard Mwalala parted ways with the side acrimoniously following a streak of losses.

“Our objective is to finish the season on a high… by winning our last match. This is very important to us since the players grow in confidence every time we beat our rivals,” he said.

“As a squad, we decided to get the most out of every one of our remaining games. We’ve encountered a tough journey and it will be a boost for us to conclude the season successfully on a high.”

He lavished praise on their passionate fans for inspiring them to a decent finish in the top-tier league and a place in the FKF Cup final.

“I want to appreciate the passionate Homeboyz fanbase and everyone who have relentlessly stood with us through thick and thin. We are overwhelmed by the patience they’ve displayed especially with the technical bench,” he said.

“That’s precisely why I adore the club and I’ll work hard to return the favour by proving to them that it’s very much possible to win games with the current crop of players.”

Odhiambo tipped his charges to cruise past Tusker in the FKF Cup final on their way to a maiden appearance on the continental front.

“We want to be in the best mood possible as we head to the big final against Tusker. We are confident of flying the country’s flag in the Caf Confederation Cup,” he said.

“We know how demanding it is to shine on the continental stage but we believe in our abilities to succeed. We wouldn’t have romped to the final if we didn’t have what it takes to succeed at such levels.”

In other matches set for Sunday, AFC Leopards will look to bounce back from their 2-1 loss to Sofapaka when they face Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex. Posta Rangers host coastal side Bandari at Nyayo stadium.
