Africa-Press – Kenya. Busia County Government will recruit coaches in various disciplines to train county teams in readiness for the Kenya Inter-counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) Games scheduled for August.

Acting director of Culture, Grace Apadet on Friday urged qualified coaches from all the eight sub-counties to submit their qualification documents expressing interest to the county government offices at Inyanja Plaza on or before June 30, 2023.

“Those who will submit their documents will be vetted,” Apadet said, giving assurance that the exercise will be free and fair.

The sub-counties include Teso North, Teso South, Nambale, Butula, Matayos, Samia and Bunyala. Kicosca games will be held in Meru County between August 20 and 27. Those who will succeed in the selection exercise will be tasked to make sure Busia bags many titles.

Football and choir will recruit two coaches each while volleyball men and women, tug of war men and women, ajua, cultural dance and athletics will be headed by one coach each.

Chess will make a debut at the games with one coach to guide the Busia team. Table tennis, darts, athletics, and scrabble, which Busia won in the last delayed edition of the games early this year will have a coach each.

In January, Busia County narrowly edged favourites West Pokot 1-0 to qualify for the football final at the Kicosca games in Kisumu.

Dennis Milao scored for Busia in the 78th minute at Kasagam Secondary School.

A youthful West Pokot side, coached by Kenneth Mnangat dominated the game but failed to capitalise on their chances.
