Africa-Press – Kenya. The Commission on Revenue Allocation is carrying out an inspection of projects in Uasin Gishu county to establish how resources allocated to the region have been utilised.

A team from the CRA made a two days extensive visit to county projects armed with details of funds allocated for the implementation of the various public projects aimed at improving the lives of the residents.

CRA Commissioner Khadija Juma who is leading the team said so far they were impressed with the projects implemented in Uasin Gishu since the onset of devolution.

“We have noted a positive impact as narrated by residents themselves in many areas who are now benefiting from the projects initiated and completed by the county government of Uasin Gishu,” Khadija said.

Speaking during a tour of projects in Soy, Moiben and Turbo subcounties, the commissioner and the CRA chief executive officer James Tule said Uasin Gishu is among counties which have completed crucial projects under devolution.

She said they were in the region on a two-day visit to assess the impact of devolution and gather views for developing the fourth basis for revenue sharing among the county governments in future.

“What we have witnessed in Uasin Gishu in terms of development is a clear indicator that the devolved system of government is working and therefore there is a need to increase the amount of money allocated for development activities,” Khadija said.

The team also paid a courtesy call on Governor Jonathan Bii at his office. Khadija and her team emphasised the need for increased allocation and timely disbursement of funds to county governments to enhance development.

Bii said his team was rolling out new projects under the Nguzo Kumi plan which is his vision to develop critical sectors that would transform the lives of residents through poverty alleviation projects. The county is set to host the devolution conference in Eldoret next month.

The CRA team visited several completed projects which are already in use including; Kuinet/ Kapsuswa ward office, Kuinet Farmers Cooperative Society, and Kapchunga water project which is benefiting the residents in agricultural activities. They also visited Ziwa Level 4 Hospital, Ngenyilel Vocational Training Centre, Kimbilio Bridge and Ziwa Machine Water Project.

They also toured projects in Ainabkoi, Kesses and Kapseret subcounties. Bii’s team will implement a Sh9.8 billion budget for the 2023/24 period during which the governor will roll out his 10-point development plan commonly known in the region as Nguzo Kumi

In the budget, the priority areas for Bii’s administration in the next financial year include water, health, agriculture and food security, trade, cooperatives and enterprise development, education and skills development, infrastructure development and ICT among others.
