Africa-Press – Kenya. Newly-appointed Malkia Strikers vice-captain Trizah Atuka has said it’s an honour to lead the team, challenging the junior players to up their game.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Golden Tulip hotel, Nairobi, during a Sh15m cheque handover for the team ahead of their three-week training camp in Morocco, Atuka, who plies trade with Kenya Pipeline, added that Malkia has what it takes to deliver better results in the upcoming competitions.
“It is a pleasure and an honour to be selected to lead Malkia. The sponsorship is a big motivation to the team. The junior players are going to greatly benefit from the camp training and enhance their game,” she said.
Malkia are set to play in the Challenger Cup in France later this month as well as in the Africa Nations Championships in Cameroon in August.
The middle-blocker returns to the squad for the first time after missing the the Tokyo Olympics and World Championships co-hosted by the Netherland and Poland last year through injury.
Atuka was instrumental as the oil merchants stormed to the Kenya Volleyball Federation League title in January, albeit unbeaten.
Meanwhile, Paul Bitok remains the coach with Japheth Munala named his assistant.
The Brazilian coaches will join the team in Tunisia.
John Oronje will accompany the team as the referee, Sarah Karongo is the physiotherapist while Emily Mbotella will be the chaperon.
