KCB storms to Driftwood Sevens quarterfinals

Africa-Press – Kenya. KCB RFC secured a place in the quarterfinals of the on-going Driftwood Sevens rugby tournament at the Mombasa Sports Club on Saturday. The Ruaraka-based side, winners of the Dala Sevens, recorded a perfect outing in the day’s fixtures at the Coast.

The bankers beat Nondescripts 22-0 in the opening match of the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit before hammering Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 45-5 in their second fixture.

KCB would then seal a spot in the quarters after registering a 17-5 victory over Nakuru RFC. “Today has been a good day for us. Everything worked according to plan. The boys showed self-belief and a desire to win,” KCB assistant coach Dennis Mwanja said.

“The chemistry between the young and experienced players was spot-on. The likes of Jacob Ojee and Vincent Onyala were instrumental for all our victories. The ultimate goal is to emerge the overall winners of the competition,” he added.

Lionel Ajeliti, who joined the bankers from Blak Blad, was handed a rare start against Nakuru. “We go back to the drawing board and strategise for tomorrow. Anyone can start in the quarterfinals because we have the depth to compete against any team. The squad is fully fit and raring to go,” added Mwanja. KCB will find out whom they will face in tomorrow’s quarterfinals as soon as today’s fixtures come to an end.
