Africa-Press – Kenya. Ndabarnach Secondary School will seek to upset the formbook when they debut at the Rift Valley Secondary School Sports Association games. Coach Thomas Khaemba said Ndabarnach, surprise winners of the Uasin Gishu county girls’ football title, will actually for a slot at the national championships.
On Saturday, Ndabarnach, who also play in the Football Kenya Federation Uasin Gishu Branch League, beat last year’s finalists Ngeria Girls 1-0 at Hill School, Eldoret.
Khaemba said: “This victory is good for us as we plan to play, not just at the regional level, but also at the national championships. We have been training very well.”
Khaemba, who moved from Eshikulu Secondary in Kakamega, said he will have to work on a few areas in training with defence and attack among them. “We have a few weaknesses, especially in defence but we hope to sort out these challenges in readiness for Laikipia,” said Khaemba.
Angela Keter converted from the spot in the 55th minute after a Ngeria defender handled the ball in the box. In the semifinals, the champions eliminated former champions Moi Girls Eldoret 3-2 on post-match penalties following a one-all draw in regulation and extra time while Ngeria were 2-1 winners over Kapkoiga Girls.
Chebisaas and Testament Schools were the champions in the newly-introduced 3×3 basketball played at the Nova School. In the boys’ category, Chebisaas triumphed 10-7 over Testimony. while Testimony girls were 12-08 winners over Uasin Gishu High School.
In the boys’ semifinals, Chebisaas were 11-04 winners against Turbo while Testimony beat hosts Nova 13-6. In the girls’ semis, Testimony beat Sugoi Girls 10-2 while Uasin Gishu saw off Moi Girls 8-7 in extra time after a six-all draw in regulation time. Back at Hill School, New Light and Tuiyo were crowned volleyball champions in the girls’ and boys’ categories respectively.
New Light thrashed Ng’enyilel in straight sets of 25-09, 25-12 and 25-08 in a one-sided encounter. In the semifinals, Ng’enyilel beat Liberty 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-14 and 25-12) while New Light were 3-0 winners over Kapkoiga Girls in sets of 25-09, 25-12 and 25-11. In the boys’ final, Tuiyo overcame neighbours Mutwot 3-2. In the semis, Tuiyo were 3-2 against New Light while Mutwot saw off Arnesens 3-0.
