Africa-Press – Kenya. Prescott Cup champions Ofafa Jericho have withdrawn from the Nairobi County Sevens Championship slated for this weekend.] Instead, the champions will focus on the next month’s East African School Games in Rwanda slated for next month.
The rules of the tournament stipulate that a school can’t have two teams playing 15s and 7s during the regional games. “According to the rules, we can’t have two teams playing at the same time. We have opted to concentrate on the longer version of the game,” said Ofafa Jericho coach James Kaili.
Kaili said it was a tough decision to make but was optimistic the boys will perform well at the East African Games in Rwanda “Our performance in the Prescott Cup and Damu Changa is a good indicator they will perform well at the East Africa Games. I also believe the squad I have can go all the way and win the tournament,” he noted.
Ofafa qualified for the East Africa Games after finishing fourth during the Term One ball games played in April. They lost 18-0 to Butula in the semifinals and lost 10-9 to St. Anthony 1 in the bronze medal match in Eldoret
Kaili said the squad had learned lessons from the championship which they will use for the East Africa Games. The tactician said they have started training for the East African Games.
“We have commenced our training and we may play a friendly game or two before the end of the term just to test our strategy and system, our tactical acumen, and other facets of play for the games,” he noted.
