Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s allies will hold roadside rallies in Homa Bay as President William Ruto attend a church meeting in Karachuonyo. President Ruto will be at Oriwo Boys School to attend a thanksgiving ceremony for Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
The president is expected to arrive at the venue in the morning and catch up with church service. On Friday, Omollo’s elder brother and spokesman Hesbon said the family invited President Ruto to grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Hesbon said their gathering is purely for thanksgiving and will not affect the meeting planned by opposition leaders in Kisumu. He said they invited everybody to the thanksgiving ceremony.
“We don’t expect rallies organised by opposition to interfere with the church service. The event will be peaceful as nobody is coerced to attend it,” Hesbon said. Addressing at Kanyipir chief camp, Raymond urged residents to welcome Ruto when he arrives.
“Let’s remain peaceful and welcome the Head of State tomorrow. We will thank him for his good gesture and leadership he has for the people in the region and Kenya as a whole,” Raymond said.
On Friday, Homa Bay ODM secretary and Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were said they will not attend the thanksgiving ceremony and instead conduct roadside rallies after a rally from Kisumu.
He said their first stop will be Sondu town where Raila will visit families affected by clashes between two communities of Kisumu and Kericho counties.
“We’re reading politics in the thanksgiving ceremony and that’s why we’ll also undertake ours in different locations within Homa Bay,” Were said. According to Were, Raila will address roadside rallies at Kendu Bay, Kadel, Homa Bay town and proceed to Suba.
