My support for Raila won't change despite intimidation, Uhuru vows

Africa-Press – Kenya. Former President Uhuru Kenyataa has said that his support to Opposition Chief Leader Raila Odinga will not change. On Friday, Uhuru said that all the intimidations from the government will not make him stop associating with Raila.

“My support is still with Raila. He is my friend. Is he a terrorist that I can’t talk with him?” he posed.

” That is my democratic right. In our constitution, Kenyans voted for whoever they wanted,” Uhuru added. The former President said he had kept silent and handed over power to the winner of the elections. ” I handed over and left,” Uhuru said.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed long-time rival Raila Odinga as his preferred successor in the August 2022 elections. According to Uhuru, Raila meant well for the country. Ruto who was then Uhuru’s deputy however beat Raila and won the elections to become Kenya’s fifth president.

On August 15, 2022, former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the winner of the presidential contest after he defeated Raila and two other candidates in the August 9 polls. Ruto garnered 7.1 million votes against Raila’s 6.9 million votes.
