Africa-Press – Kenya. Siaya deputy governor William Oduol now says ODM has persecuted him for twelve years.
The DG whose impeachment by the Siaya county assembly was thwarted by the senate on Tuesday said that in the entire period, he has remained a pariah in the opposition party led by former prime minister Raila Odinga.
“ODM have persecuted me all this time. The last twelve years I have been a pariah in ODM,” Oduol told the Star.
“Remember, the ODM assembly in Siaya impeached me and made a spirited campaign at the senate to have them uphold their decision,” he said.
Oduol said the assembly’s move would have meant writing his political obituary.
“I was largely saved by Kenya Kwanza senators,” he said.
The DG spoke hours after a meeting with ICT CS Eliud Owalo at the minister’s Teleposta office in Nairobi.
The CS, in his social media platforms, revealed that he met the DG for a discussion on the implementation of the bottom-up economic development agenda (BETA).
“I have this morning held consultations with Siaya County Deputy Governor, William Oduol, ” the CS stated.
” We discussed aspects of cooperation and partnership between the two levels of Government in the implementation of the Bottom Up Economic Development Agenda(BETA) in Siaya County,” he noted.
The DG also went public about the meeting with the CS, sharing it on his Facebook page.
“This morning, I met with Waziri Eliud Owalo at his Teleposta Tower office. We discussed many things but most importantly how we can accelerate development within our region,” Oduol posted.
” I look forward to working closely with Eliud, the government and like-minded men and women to spur the economic potential of Siaya county,” he indicated in the Facebook post.
On July 15, Oduol skipped the ODM rally in Kisumu’s Nyamasaria.
He instead joined other leaders who attended the thanksgiving ceremony of interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo in Homa Bay county.
President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and a host of CSs and PSs graced the event.
Asked about the developments, Oduol responded thus ” What would you do if you were in my position? ”
” If your brother puts a sledgehammer on your head and your neighbour passes by and rescues you from this, who would you identify with? Your dishonest brother or your considerate neighbour?” he quipped.
He noted that the same ODM Siaya branch purported expelled him from ODM.
” What am I supposed to do when I am expelled from my party? Sit here and sing hallelujah?” he wondered.
The DG fell out with his boss Governor James Orengo over what he termed as ideological issues, early this year.
The bitter fallout culminated in the botched attempt by the county assembly to send him home.
He was later saved by the senate after a majority of the senators allied to President William Ruto voted against the impeachment.
