Africa-Press – Kenya. After missing the quarterfinals cut during the Kenya Amateur Match Play championships, Terra Saidimu and hot junior golfer Elvis Muigua paired to win the International Pairs qualifiers at the Great Rift Valley Golf Club in Naivasha, Nakuru County on Saturday.

Karen-based Saidimu paired with Kiambu’s Muigua to record a combined score of 43 points to emerge the winners and a place in September’s Grand Finale.

The two, who were knocked out of the last Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship, beat the pair of Kiplangat Sang & Ken Biegon from Kericho Golf Club on countback.

The event attracted a total of 39 pairs from 19 clubs across the country. Kericho Golf Club players displayed exemplary show with four pairs out of the seven from the club finishing within the top five positions.

The pairs of David Biegon/Charles Keter, Elvis Koech/Ezekiel Koech, and Collins Kipkurui/Reuben Muruguru—all tied on 41 points to place third, fourth, and fifth respectively on countback.

The top four pairs and the first mixed pair of Bernard Kiraithe/Kathure Njoroge from Royal Nairobi, who posted 39 points secured slots in the September 1 Grand Finale. The next qualifier event is set for August 5 at Nyali Golf & Country Club.

This will be followed by three more events at Windsor (August 12), Nakuru (August 19) and VetLab Sports Club (August 26). All golfers, who are 18 years and above and have a valid WHS handicap index are eligible.

In each qualifier, the top four pairs, best ladies’ pair or best mixed pair qualify for the Grand Finale. Since the start of the series in 2019, seven pairs have participated in a fully-paid trip to the World Finals.

The next fully paid-for golfing trip to the world finals will be at the Royal Obidos Spa & Golf Resort and Bom Sucesso Resort in Portugal from November 6-10.

The top three pairs in the Grand Finale qualify for the World Finals. In each qualifier, the top four pairs, best ladies’ pair or best-mixed pair will qualify for the Grand Finale.

The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) chairman Philip Ochola thanked the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort for the hospitality.

“The International Pairs is meant to be a fun competition where we get to connect as golfers and appreciate the different abilities that we have. All golfers who are 18 years and above and have a valid WHS handicap index are eligible,” he said
