Africa-Press – Kenya. Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has called for political trounce in the country. The Wiper politician said many lives were lost and property worth hundreds of millions destroyed during the recent anti-government demonstrations called by the Azimio leadership.
He retaliated that the Kenyan economy was hurting hence the need for immediate intervention to avert the situation. “We are not in this country as guests. Kenyans are watching us,” Kilonzo Junior said. He spoke during a funds drive at Ndoo Secondary School in Tulimani, Mbooni sub county on Saturday, July 29.
The county CEO made the sentiments a day after former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo agreed to lead a 10-member committee in spearheading talks between ODM chief Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
He called for political hardliners in both political divides to support peaceful resolution talks to address the country’s political differences. “We need to stop trading barbs since our people depend on how we talk to each other. We won’t have investors coming to Kenya if we continue in this direction,” Kilonzo Junior said.
The governor said all leaders from both sides of the government should support negotiations. “Let’s reason together. The only way is to let these two leaders sit down and talk. We have lost four young people; the two who were killed during demonstrations in Machakos hailed from Makueni alongside the other two who died during the Emali and Wote towns’ shooting incident,” Kilonzo Junior said.
Kilonzo Junior said Kenyans need peace for economic growth. He offered for his arbitration between Raila and Ruto. “Campaign period is over and we are no longer in politics. If these two leaders fail to reach a consensus, then, I, Mutula, is ready to sit them down and find a solution,” he said.
