Africa-Press – Kenya. Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has downplayed the involvement of former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo in mediation talks.

Mbai said the ex-Nigeria president has no capacity to facilitate any dialogue between President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking at Vihiga Friends church in Vihiga Constituency during a Harambee, he claimed that Obasanjo failed to address the peace situation back in his country.

“Let him deal with mediation in his country first, we don’t need his services in Kenya,” Mbai said.

He said that Ruto ought to address the country’s issues without the involvement of outsiders.

Mbai maintained that if there ought to be any talks between Raila and Ruto, they must be held in an open environment in the full glare of cameras.

This comes after Azimio agreed to nominate five members to sit in a new dialogue panel that will consist of five other members from Kenya Kwanza.

The fresh talks will be facilitated by the former Nigerian President.

In a statement on Saturday, Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said they had reached the decision after consultations with the Kenya Kwanza side under Obasanjo’s facilitation “desirous of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation”.

“We, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza (are) determined to resolve our differences amicably for the benefit of all our people,” the statement read in part.

Mbai was in a company of Sabatia MP Clement Sloya, Vihiga MP Ernest Kagesi, and a host of MCAs.
