Don't agree to any form of power-sharing deal – Gachagua to Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged his boss William Ruto not to bow to any form of power-sharing deal. Gachagua said Kenyans were against a handshake deal, noting that they voted for one president, Ruto.

“Rais watu ya hapa Mt Kenya walikuchagua wewe na wakakupea kura zao zote. Wamesema kwa kauli moja, mambo ya handshake hawataki,” he said on Saturday

Gachagua said he was keen to ensure that no one tried to maneuver their way into the government. The DP has been an ardent campaigner against a power-sharing deal between Ruto and Azimio Opposition Raila Odinga.

He has repeatedly insisted that Raila lost the August 9, 2022, presidential elections. In July, he reiterated that the government would fight against all plans of the opposition to share power.

Speaking in Kericho on July 19, Gachagua said he was going to protect their win tirelessly and jealously. “You voted and we won, my work with (National Assembly Majority Leader) Ichung’wah now and the rest is to protect our leadership and the victory,” he said.

“They (Azimio) are attempting to get the president at State House for talks, but I am hawk-eyed with snares everywhere.” Raila has however maintained that he is not interested in power sharing with the Kenya Kwanza regime either.

The opposition chief has also denied claims that he wants dialogue to negotiate for power sharing, adding that a handshake is not on the cards. “Sisi hatujauliza na hatutauliza mambo ya handshake. Handshake ni porojo yao. Hatutaki (We have not asked for a Handshake, and we will not ask for it. Handshake claims are their propaganda. We don’t want),” Raila said on July 20. Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition are expected to hold a fresh dialogue.
