Africa-Press – Kenya. Fifteen schools in Bungoma county failed to pick exams from the exam centres as the KCPE exam and Kenya Primary School Examination Assessment for Grade 6 learners begun Monday.
Addressing the press at Bungoma DEB Primary School, Bungoma South deputy county commissioner Duncan Okwach said despite the hitch, the exercise commenced on schedule for rest of the schools.
“I am happy the exams have started in earnest and police officers are on the look out to ensure all the guidelines are adhered to,” Okwach said.
He lauded secondary schools heads for cooperating with primary schools and availing their school buses to help in the transportation of exams to schools.
Okwach, who is the acting county commissioner, said Bungoma has 1,007 KPSEA exam centres and 951 KCPE centres.
He said most of the 15 schools that failed to pick exams are private, adding that some of them were closed by the Ministry of Education for not complying with requirements.
They include Bridge School Kibabii, Jamia Primary School in Bungoma Town and Gateway Primary School.
Bungoma county director of Education Philip Chirchir said he is still doing a follow up to know what happened with the schools.
“The exams are still held in our stores as I investigate what happened with these schools. Nobody will tamper with them,” he said.
Okwach called on all stakeholders to be vigilant and play their roles dutifully during the exams.
On the forthcoming senatorial by-election, the administrator said primary schools will be used as polling centres because the Form 4 exams will still be ongoing in secondary schools.
