343 Patients Recover as 1,041 Test Positive for Covid-19

Africa-PressKenya. In the last 24 hours, 1,041 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 7,753. The positivity rate now stands at 13.4 percent.

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in Kenya now stands at 150,260. The cumulative tests that have been conducted so far now stand at 1,592,484.

Of the cases announced today, 1,009 are Kenyans while 32 are foreigners. 629 are male and 412 are female. The youngest is a two-year-old baby while the oldest is 93-years old.

Unfortunately,19 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 2,443.

At the same time,343 patients have recovered from the disease, 217 of those are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care, while 126 are from various health facilities.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 100,980.

A total of 1,588 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,757 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

260 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 47 of whom are on ventilatory support and 164 on supplemental oxygen. 49 patients are on observation.

As of Thursday, April 15, 28,234 people had been vaccinated. This pushes the total number of those vaccinated to 651,650.

The Kenya Medical practitioners and Dentists Council on Friday, April 16 announced that three nursing homes had been fined Ksh500,000 each for advertising that they offered home-based ICU care for covid-19 patients.

“We note that Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care caters for patients with severe or life-threatening illnesses or injuries which require constant care and supervision from a multi-disciplinary medical team,” the council in a statement noted.

Hospitals in Kenya are getting overwhelmed by the number of patients in need of intensive care and this has led to some hospitals turning away patients.
