6 Police Officers Arrested While Partying

Africa-PressKenya. Six police officers are cooling their heels behind bars after they were nabbed partying in Kisumu past curfew hours.

A report by NTV on Sunday, June 20, indicated that the battalion was arrested in Nyamasaria area within Kisumu at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 19.

Kisumu County Commander Samuel Anampiu confirmed the incident noting that the officers were nabbed partying with six civilians.

A report by K24 TV identified the officers as Stanley Kimato, Reuben Ngelech, Vine Okenyo, Angima Harriet and Daniel Maina from Nyakacho Police Station.

The other officer was identified as John Ongweno from Central Police Station Nakuru.

A police report also indicated that the civilians who were found at the joint were also detained at Kondele Police Station.

“While the following are members of the public who were equally found in the company of the above-named officers; Maureen Adhiambo, Grace Marry Achieng, Eldqueen Wanjala, Juliet Cheruto, Peter Njuguna and Ronald Orengo,” read the statement in part.

On Thursday, June 17, the government reviewed curfew to 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. in 13 Counties in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Kisumu was among the counties that had recorded a spike in Covid-19 virus especially the lethal Indian variant.

The other counties included Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia, Siaya, Homa-Bay and Migori.

A statement signed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe indicated that the counties had been declared as a Covid-19 hotspot zone both individually and collectively.

In the counties, weekly non-food and livestock markets were suspended for 30 days while public gatherings and in-person meetings of whatever nature were prohibited.
