Africa-Press – Kenya. The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has unveiled a major reorganisation of its top leadership in a move aimed at revitalising the coalition and sharpening its political strategy ahead of the next phase of national engagement.

Under the chairmanship of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Executive Committee was held on Monday, February 2, 2026, during which key leadership appointments were unanimously approved.

The decisions have since been formally communicated to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).

In the changes, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was appointed Party Leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, cementing his role as a central figure in steering the coalition’s political direction.

Suba MP Caroli Omondi was named Secretary General, while former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia was appointed Executive Director.

The coalition said the appointments were necessitated by “evolving political circumstances” that demanded prompt and strategic leadership adjustments to strengthen internal coordination and effectiveness.

“These changes are part of a deliberate effort to reposition and revitalise the coalition,” Azimio said in a statement following the meeting.

“The goal is to foster greater cohesion, effectiveness and unity as the coalition advances its agenda for the nation.”

The meeting, chaired by Kenyatta in his capacity as chairman of the Azimio Council, brought together senior coalition leaders who reviewed the party’s organisational structure, political environment and long-term strategy.

The elevation of Musyoka to Party Leader is intended to give Azimio a clear political anchor, while leveraging his experience in national politics and coalition-building.

Kisia, a seasoned administrator with experience in public service and political organisation, will oversee day-to-day operations as Executive Director, focusing on coordination, policy execution and institutional strengthening.

The leadership shake-up comes amid renewed efforts by Azimio to consolidate its support base, maintain relevance in national discourse and present itself as a cohesive and credible political force.

The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive, principled and forward-looking governance, saying the restructuring is geared towards better serving Kenyans and responding effectively to national challenges.

“Azimio remains committed to unity, democratic values and people-centred leadership,” the statement read.

“These leadership enhancements are designed to ensure the coalition remains strong, organised and focused on the aspirations of all Kenyans.”

Political analysts view the changes as a calculated move to stabilise the coalition’s leadership and prepare it for future political engagements, including electoral reform debates and broader national consultations.

With the new leadership team now in place, attention will turn to how Azimio translates the reorganisation into renewed political momentum on the ground and in Parliament.
