Battle of KPL strugglers as Shabana, Muhoroni face off

Africa-Press – Kenya. Shabana will hope to get their Kenyan Premier League campaign back on track when they face fellow strugglers Muhoroni Youth on Saturday.

Interim coach Caleb Aringa said: “Despite having a depleted squad of 21 players due to suspensions and injuries, we have had good preparations and are ready to tackle Muhoroni Youth.”

The game will be played at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

“This is a must-win game for us. We want to get our campaign back on track. Any more slip-ups will be costly to our ambition of leaving the danger zone,” said Aringa.

“The mood in the camp has been great since we resumed training from the festive season break. The energy is on another level. We have to bag maximum points now that we are playing at home. We want to win by more than two goals. Our goal difference is wanting.”

He said about 10 regular players due to injuries and suspensions. Among the players who are out of the Muhoroni game are

Experienced midfielder Eugine Mukangula and striker Enock Agwanda are among the top players ruled out of the encounter.

Reports indicate that the burly Mukangula wants out just six months after joining the KPL returnees while Agwanda is out of the match-day squad.

“Mukangula has not reported back for training after the festive season break. He sent us a note from a clinic saying he is unwell,” claimed Aringa.

The midfielder joined Tore Bobe from AFC Leopards in August and has scored twice.

Aringa said they have more than 10 potential recruits training with the team since the turn of the year.

“These are the players we want to sign. I don’t want to talk about them until they sign for us when the transfer window opens but they are very good players. These players will help us avoid relegation,” noted the tactician.

“We want to have these players available in our next match, against Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. We want to strengthen all departments in the January transfer window.”

He said about 10 players will be released when the mid-season transfer window opens on Monday. Ivorian Frank Ouya and striker Johana Mwita have already left the club.
