Africa-Press – Kenya. The Paul Bitok volleyball tournament that was abandoned early this month following the death of the Kenya Volleyball Federation president Waithaka Kioni resumes on May 5-6 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
According to the schedule released by KVF, defending league champions Kenya Pipeline face off against Kenya Prisons in the women’s first semi-final. KCB will renew its rivalry with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI. Winners in both matches will meet in the final while the losers will battle in the third-place playoff.
In the men’s category, Kenya Prisons face a tricky tie against TrailBlazers as Kenya Ports Authority hopes to disarm Kenya Defense Forces. Multiple men’s league champions the General Service Unit faced early elimination.
The late Kioni was laid to rest on April 19. Kioni, who served as the CAVB treasurer, passed away in a Nairobi hospital on April 9 after a short illness. He was the brains behind the formation of the Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club in 1987. The KVF elections will be held on April 29.
