Africa-Press – Kenya. The 2023 Paul Bitok international volleyball tournament which was set to resume on May 5-6 at the Moi Stadium, Kasarani Indoor Arena, has been postponed again.
The tournament, which had reached the semifinal stage, was halted last month following the demise of the Kenya Volleyball Federation president, the late Waithaka Kioni on April 9.
“Despite our efforts to secure the venue and an alternative option at Nyayo, both are fully booked, leaving us with no choice but to reschedule,” KVF said.
“We have notified all team managers about this development and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will communicate the new dates in due course and we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The development comes three days after the Sports Dispute Tribunal extended the term of the current KVF officials by another three months. The KVF were set to hold elections on April 29 but SDT ordered elections of the National Executive Committee (NEC) be held within the next 90 days to avoid Kenya being locked out of international sports events. SDT also directed that branch elections be held before the Annual General Meeting.
