Boi: Kenya hockey needs to be run like English Premier League

Africa-Press – Kenya. Twinkle hockey club president Boi Kiplani has said hockey in Kenya needs to be run professionally like most English Premier League clubs in order to reap better rewards in the long term.

The team that is in its first season in the women’s Super League, unveiled the club van on Sunday in Nairobi, the first club to own a van in hockey.

“We want hockey in Kenya to be managed like most English teams. When you have new signings, it’s good to unveil them. We can buy players for even a million shilling and sell them for a profit,” Boi said.

“We want a paradigm shift in Kenyan hockey. We made a deliberate decision to go for unknown players. We are a club that taps talent from the grassroots,” he added.

Despite being in their first season in the league, Boy said he’s hoping the team will gain promotion to the Premier League in the first time of asking.

“Our wish is for the team to play in the top tier next season. We have invested in these players and we look forward to nurture a team that can produce better results.”

Twinkle are unbeaten in the five matches the team has played thus far with 11 points to their name. The team is keen on extending their scouting network overseas.

“Twinkle represents stars and we want to achieve the highest possible heights in hockey as a sport.”
