Africa-Press – Kenya. Sports and Youth Affairs CS Ababu Namwamba on Tuesday announced the government will ensure that Bomet stadium is renovated.
The CS who inspected the stadium said the ministry will work with the Bomet County government.
He said it will be upgraded to a level capable of hosting regional tournaments, in line with the ministry’s master plan on stadia development.
Namwamba was accompanied by Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, County Commissioner Ahmed Omar and the Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto.
This is part of the ministry’s goal to upgrade most of the stadium facilities across the country to FIFA/CAF standards in readiness for the government’s bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The CS decried the sorry state of the facility and emphasized the need to construct sports facilities with a clear plan.
“From the look of things here, looking at the work that has gone on here and obviously colossal sums of money have been spent here it just confirms that we cannot develop facilities haphazardly,” he said.
“All future stadiums will only be developed in the context of a coherent master plan that tells the people of Kenya where were we doing what, how, at what cost and for what purpose so that if you are going to come to this site to complete the stadium then you will see a plan in advance,” he added.
The CS who also held talks with the governor emphasized the need for the adoption of the Whole-of-government approach to government service delivery.
