Africa-Press – Kenya. Bungoma county government is set to benefit from a multi-million bulk water and sanitation project from the National government.
The Sh33 billion project will see the creation of new waterlines, sewerage systems, and renovations of the existing ones across Webuye East and West, Kabuchai and Kanduyi subcounties.
The donation was revealed on Wednesday during a meeting between Governor Kenneth Lusaka and Principal Secretary for Water Dr Rono Paul at Maji House Nairobi.
Dr Rono further revealed that an additional Sh6.2 billion has been allocated for the rehabilitation of the Namasanda Dam.
Webuye town which has never had a sewer line will benefit from a new sewerage system while in Bungoma town sewerage will be rehabilitated with a further extension to another line to Kibabii.
According to Rono, the rehabilitation of Bungoma dams aims at having a steady supply of water for irrigation and home use for residents.
Governor Lusaka expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Water noting that Bungoma has had water and sewer challenges and once the two projects are implemented the issue will be a thing of the past.
“These are the benefits of county bosses having a cordial relationship with the national government. County allocations can’t fund such projects,” Lusaka said.
