Africa-Press – Kenya. Kisumu All Stars chairman Nicholas Ochieng’ remains confident his side will beat the drop and climb to a respectable finish in the National Super League standings.
Ochieng’ believes the team has turned a corner following a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Mwatate United at Wundanyi Stadium on Sunday, Kisumu’s first away win of the season and their first in the second leg.
The crucial result lifted the “Blue Eagles” out of the relegation zone, with the Kisumu-based side now sitting 16th on the log with 24 points from 24 matches.
So far, they have registered six wins, six draws, and 11 defeats in a difficult campaign. “The win against Mwatate is a very important step for us. We are now out of the danger zone, but we are not safe yet,” Ochieng said.
“We are targeting a top-10 finish, and it is achievable.
”He credited the turnaround to a candid meeting between management and players held last week, which aimed to address the team’s struggles.
“We sat down and had an honest discussion because we were not comfortable with our position. That win has given us confidence, and I believe we will get positive results in the upcoming matches,” he added.
Ochieng’ also downplayed the absence of head coach Duncan Otieno, who missed the Mwatate clash due to personal commitments. Assistant coach Geoffrey Omondi took charge and is expected to lead the team again in Saturday’s fixture against Kibera Black Stars at Gems Cambridge College in Karen.
“Coach Otieno will be back for our next match against Gucha Stars, so there is no cause for concern,” Ochieng’ clarified.
The chairman also dismissed claims surrounding the departure of former assistant coach Billy Agai, insisting there was no fallout within the technical bench.
“He left after securing another opportunity elsewhere. There was no disagreement as has been suggested,” Ochieng’ said.
