Court orders Maiyo to vacate office within seven days

Africa-Press – Kenya. National Parents Association chairman Nicholas Maiyo has been directed to vacate office within seven days after his election was found to have been illegally conducted.

Justice Hedwig Ong’udi has also ordered that David Obuhatsa Silas be the recognised chairman of the parents association.

Maiyo and his team were elected in 2021 but the board of the association moved to court and won in a suit that sought to declare the election illegal.

Subsequently, the court on May 31 nullified Maiyo’s election and directed that fresh polls be conducted.

Obuhatsa and his team won the fresh election but the Maiyo team refused to vacate office triggering another round of court battle.

On Monday, Justice Ong’udi directed Maiyo’s team to vacate within seven days and hand over bank accounts, office files, receipt books, sponsorship agreements, membership registers and any other official documents.

“Nicholas Maiyo, Sarah Kagendo and Jeremiah Nyakundi are further restrained from attending or participating in any education forum organised by either the ministry or any other stakeholder,” the court said.
