CS Ruku Slams Gachagua Over By-Election Violence

Africa-Press – Kenya. Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over allegations of planned violence in the upcoming Mbeere-North parliamentary elections.

Gachagua yesterday claimed that there were plans to spark violence in Mbeere North during its November 27 elections by suspected goons linked to senior government officials.

The former DP alleged that the suspected planners were directly linked to Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and CS Ruku, who is also the former Mbeere North MP.

In his remarks, Gachagua called on the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to quickly intervene, investigate the matter and bring to book those planning the violence.

However, CS Ruku, in a strongly worded statement dated Thursday, November 13, labelled Gachagua’s claims as mere theatrics, further describing his sentiments as politically motivated hate speech.

According to Ruku, if the former DP was truly aggrieved by the matter, he could have first reported it to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instead of directing it to IG Kanja.

“Gachagua knows well that it is the DCI that is mandated by law to receive, record and investigate complaints made by members of the public and to make appropriate recommendations,” Ruku said.

“The letter to IG Douglas Kanja was motivated more by Gachagua’s usual dramatisations than by his quest and search for criminal justice,” he added.

While hitting out at Gachagua, Ruku claimed that the former DP’s assertions were only meant to whip up public emotions, empathy and hatred towards him.

He also accused the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader of reportedly planning to visit Mbeere North in the coming days to continue with what the CS described as hate speech against the government.

“Gachagua’s visit to Mbeere North Constituency is only intended to intensify his hate speeches and advocacy of hatred and disrespect for the rights and reputations of President Dr William Ruto,” Ruku claimed.

As per Ruku, Mbeere North deserves solutions to water, transportation and educational challenges rather than hate speeches and advocacy of hatred.
