According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Saturday, May 1, the traffic officer Moses Kisiria had flagged down DCI officer Nicholas Kiptoo who was driving a blue Subaru car but after declining to stop a hot pursuit ensued.
Kisiria’s attempt to block the road using his police motorcycle was futile as Kiptoo hit the bike with his car, pushing it off the road and sped off.
The pursuit continued up to Karen Country Club where the driver parked his vehicle off the road and a physical confrontation started.
A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed motorists witnessing the fight as the DCI sleuth gave demands before his arrest.
“I am not going, unless you take me to Karen DCI,” Kiptoo shouted repeatedly while trying to wrestle out of the traffic officer’s hold.
Karen police station was alerted by members of the public who witnessed the scuffle and the duty officer rushed to the rider’s rescue.
The police report stated that Kisiria had flagged down the driver after noticing an unusual driving pattern which signaled that something was wrong.
“Moses Kisiria was on traffic check duties along Magadi road when he noticed a motor vehicle reg no.KBM 149F Subaru saloon which was being driven in a zigzag manner from Ongata Rongai towards Kiserian general direction,” read the report.
The DCI officer was subjected to a breathalyzer test and found to be drunk at 0.49mg/l. The officer has since been placed in custody and is being processed to appear in court on Monday, May 3.
Kiptoo will be charged with driving under influence of alcohol and assaulting a police officer.
He will also be charged with failing to comply with the directive to stop his vehicle.
“A driver who fails to comply with any reasonable signal given by a police officer in uniform requiring the driver to stop the vehicle before the barrier commits an offense and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months or to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or to both,” Section 65 (2) of the National Police Service Act reads.
