Africa-Press – Kenya. Kamito Boys executed perfect revenge in a boys’ handball opener against Hospital Hill at the national secondary school games in Eldoret. In last year’s final, Hospital beat Kamito, who were not ready to fall again, winning the encounter 31-29.

Kamito head coach Zakayo Korir said they could not lose twice to the same opponent at this level. “The game was tough. Better than the final we played last year. After losing last year, we had to double our efforts,” said Korir.

Team captain Geoffrey Kimutai said they are targeting to win all their matches on their way to the national title. “We came here to be champions, not participants. We have to make a statement,” said Kimutai. In another Pool ‘A’ match, Mbooni from Eastern beat Handege from Central 26-22.

Former champions Moi Girls Kamusinga from Western were 42-18 winners against Nairobi’s Dagoretti as Coat’s Kaya Tiwi were 18-24 losers against Nyathuna from Central and Miranga defeated St Charles Muli 24-20.

Hockey champions St Anthony Kitale started their title defence on a high, beating Meru School 2-0 courtesy of Linton Nayombe and Victor Sirengo in a Pool ‘A’ opener.

Former champions Maseno drew 0-0 with Nairobi School. In girls’ hockey, newcomers St Joseph’s Kitale earned maximum points without touching the ball after Hill Crest failed to show up.

The John Lusaka-coached will, however, find it rough against Nyamira Girls on Wednesday morning. Nyamira, from Nyanza, thrashed St Charles Lwanga from Coast 5-0.

St Anthony’s Kitale capitalised on a last-minute loss of concentration by Kisii to win bag a narrow 8-6 win in a Pool ‘B’ encounter. Kisii took a 6-0 lead after penalties converted by Denzel Emmanuel and Edwin Omari.

Kitale’s Iradi Ruto touched down for the Saints in the dying minutes of the encounter as Edgar Masika added the extras. In Pool ‘A’, Ofafa Jericho from Nairobi were 19-11 winners over Rift Valley’s St Patrick’s Iten while All Saints of Eastern beat Mangu from Central 22-06.
