Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa has urged Kenyans to defend devolution. Speaking on Thursday in Murang’a during a meeting by Azimio, Wamalwa said devolution is slowly dying under the Kenya Kwanza government.
“Unless we stand up, devolution is dying under the Kenya Kwanza government,” Wamalwa said.
He said things are out of control as county employees have not received their salaries because counties have not been allocated funds to carry out their mandate. Wamalwa urged Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata to write to President William Ruto on the poor state of affairs in the county.
“Civil servants and county employees have not received their salaries. If you see Kang’ata, tell him to write a letter to Ruto telling him things on the ground are not good,” Wamalwa said.
“The Constitution says it is a right for counties to get their allocation, at the right time and as approved by the Senate. Kang’ata must demand the right of the people of Murang’a county.”
Wamalwa explained that the funds allocated to counties do not come as a favour but rather, the allocation is a right He said if by next week counties will not have received their allocations, then everyone should come out and join Azimio in the demos.
