Don’t paralyse the country – MPs tell Speaker to rule on Majority

Africa-Press – Kenya. Member of Parliament on Thursday demanded a ruling on the Majority status claiming the delay is subjecting the country to unnecessary paralysis and anxiety.

MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East) and Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu)told Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei to rule on the standoff that has delayed the constitution of the crucial House Business Committee (HBC).

Speaker Moses Wetangula had on Tuesday said he will give a ruling on who is the Majority after both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza claimed the status.

Nyoro said the continued delay is unhealthy for the country and has thrown Parliament into unprecedented anxiety.

“This house is very anxious as far as the majority and minority are concerned. I seek your guidance because the country cannot continue to wait in paralysis and this House cannot continue to wait in anxiety,” Nyoro said.

Junet concurred saying the ruling ought to have been the first business of the House.

“The last communication from the substantive speaker is that he is going to deliver the ruling on Thursday at 2.30 pm, and now it is 2.44 pm unless the ruling is not ready and unless the law has taken its course and the leadership has realized that Azimio is the majority,” Junet said.

“Can we authoritatively say that the decision has been made in silence and that Azimio is the Majority Leader?”

The Deputy Speaker overruled the members saying the ruling will be delivered before the end of today’s session.

The House is sitting today from 2.30pm to 8pm.
