DP Kindiki warns against political intolerance

Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned politicians against resolving their differences through incitement to violence. Speaking in Kyuso, Mwingi North in Kitui County during a thanksgiving service at Gospel Outreach Church on Sunday, Kindiki said it is dangerous for Kenyans to rise against each other because politicians have disagreed.

“When we disagree, we must respect each other’s opinions and wait for democratic ways to resolve our disputes,” he stated. He added that as leaders, politicians must put the unity of the country first.

“Countries that are not peaceful, some of them our neighbours, started just like this. Pockets of violence, you disagree with one another and you fight you hurt one another, you kill one another,” he said. Present at the service were MPs Paul Nzengu (Mwingi North), Mwenda Gataya (Senator, Tharaka Nithi), Lilian Siyoi (Woman Representative,

Trans Nzoia County), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), Benard Kitur (Nandi Hills), Patrick Munene (Chuka Igambang’ombe), and Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East). “In the last five years, we have seen that when leaders differ, they resolve their differences through incitement to violence.” Kindiki called on politicians to be patriotic and put the

unity of the country first. “This is our home, we were born here and when our time comes, we will die here. We will leave other generations to carry on,” he added. He assured that the Kenya Kwanza administration is ready for the input of alternative voices among them the opposition, civil society and churches.

“For those who are political leaders, we must protect this country from emerging practices of political violence and intolerance,” the DP urged. Kindiki said politicians must rescue the country from sliding into lawlessness by agreeing to transact affairs peacefully and honourably. His remarks come as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have begun questioning some of the leaders and members of the public who attended the chaotic burial ceremony in Limuru, which saw goons attack former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and mourners.
