Africa-PressKenya. Deputy President William Ruto announced that he had rescheduled public engagements until further notice.

In a statement on Friday, July 30, the DP acknowledged that the Covid-19 situation in the country following the announcement by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe earlier during the day.

Additionally, the DP urged his followers to take responsibility and adhere to the set Government of Kenya guidelines to curb the spread of the disease.

“The Covid-19 situation in the country has escalated as stated by GoK this afternoon. My scheduled public engagements are hereby postponed until further notice.

“We all should take individual responsibility and adhere to guidelines issued so as to control this ravaging pandemic.”

In a press briefing earlier on Friday, Kagwe stated that Covid-19 cases in the Country, especially in Nairobi County, had skyrocketed.

He warned that there were not enough spaces to admit patients in Nairobi hospitals, adding that some were dying before they could secure beds.

The government directed that all public and personal meetings were suspended countrywide.

Kagwe added that all government and intergovernmental meetings will also be virtual or postponed, according to the CS.

“While indoors, maintain a physical distance of at least 1 meter between people not from the same household and observe hand and cough hygiene to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” Kagwe stated.

The government maintained that the nationwide curfew hours would remain from 10:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 a.m. until further notice.
