Drama as man interrupts Ruto's speech in Kirinyaga

Africa-Press – Kenya. Drama was briefly witnessed during President William Ruto ‘s speech in Kirinyaga on Saturday after a man interrupted him during the commissioning of Thiba Dam.

The man claimed that he had the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Mr. President, I have a Covid-19 vaccine” he said causing the President to pause his speech briefly.

As the crowd broke into laughter, Ruto said he will look into whether it was true the man had the cure for the virus that has caused havoc globally.

“Sawasawa.. haya….Huyu jamaa anasema akona ujuzi wa Covid vaccine . Tutaangalia kama ni ukweli ako na hiyo tiba anasema ako nayo,” he said after equally breaking into laughter.

Earlier in the week, outgoing Health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe said all Covid-19 vaccines have been accounted for and denied claims that a number of doses can not be traced.

The CS said that as at March 31 this year, 27,606,120 doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been received at the National Vaccines Store as per import documents, with the majority of the doses at 97 per cent being a donation and bilateral external sources.

He said the Ministry of Health also procured another 897,600 doses of Janssen vaccine in 2021 and that all the doses were dispatched to the counties by March 31, 2022.

Kagwe explained that out of the 27,606, 120 doses, 24, 299, 680 jabs had been distributed to the National Vaccines Store to regional stores, county stores and health facilities as of March 31, 2022.

This, according to him, left a balance of 3,306,440 doses in stock.

He further noted that a total of 843,718 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines had been reported as expired at county and regional levels, as at March 31, 2022.
