Africa-Press – Kenya. Tottenham Hotspur continued their fine Premier League run at the Etihad Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday, as goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha sealed the win.

Spurs, who have now won three of their last five league visits to City, remain unbeaten under new manager Thomas Frank, following up their opening-day 3-0 win over Burnley.

City looked lively in the early stages with Omar Marmoush testing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Erling Haaland heading narrowly over.

But it was Spurs who struck first in the 35th minute when Johnson capitalized on slack defending from Rico Lewis to fire into the top corner from a Richarlison assist.

Though initially ruled offside, VAR overturned the decision.

The visitors doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time after City’s new goalkeeper James Trafford gifted possession in his own box.

Richarlison intercepted and laid the ball off to Palhinha, who scored via a deflection to make it 2-0.

Trafford, 22, was making his second successive start amid speculation linking Ederson with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray.

Pep Guardiola’s men, who opened the season with a 4-0 win at Wolves, struggled to recover and home fans began leaving in large numbers before the final whistle.

Spurs supporters, in contrast, celebrated loudly with chants of “It’s happened again, Manchester City.”

For Frank, it was another memorable Etihad triumph.

The Dane, who previously guided Brentford to a 2-1 win at the ground in 2022, became only the third manager after Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte to defeat Guardiola away with two different teams.
