Africa-Press – Kenya. Antoine Griezmann may have extended his contract until 2026, but Atlético Madrid has already mapped out his departure. Although the French striker remains a club icon after a stellar 17-goal, 9-assist season, his role has subtly shifted.
Antoine Griezmann started just 43 of 56 matches and finished only 13, while new arrival Julian Alvarez and the rise of Sørloth have edged him toward the bench, especially during the Club World Cup.
Marca reports that Griezmann accepted a reduced role upon signing his extension, knowing he wouldn’t be a regular starter at the beginning of the upcoming season. While he’ll aim to regain playing time, Atlético has already prepared for life after him.
The 2018 World Cup winner is expected to leave in 2026, likely heading to Major League Soccer for a final career chapter.
