Africa-Press – Kenya. Equity Bank Hawks return to Kenya National Basketball League action with a clash against Lady Bucks at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
This will be the bankers first encounter since returning from the FIBA Africa Zone Five Women Club Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania early this month.
Hawks finished fifth in the regional show with compatriots Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) second in the nine-team competition. The former national and regional champions coach David Maina said they are looking forward to winning the match.
“I want to believe we are prepared for a win despite training two different teams now. My other team is currently busy with the inter-bank games but we should be ok on Sunday,” Maina said.
In another tie, on form University of Nairobi ‘Dynamites’ play Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in what should be an exiting match up. The girls from UoN campus won 45-41 against Strathmore University Swords while ANU went down 60-53 to Zetech University Sparks.
“ANU is a good, fast team but we are ready for them. They played very well against Zetech Sparks last weekend,” UoN’s coach Juma Kent said.
His ANU counterpart Mike Oluoch noted that it will be a very interesting game.
“UoN are good. They have won all their games which is good but we have trained well. We are coming to fight for a win.”
In other matches, the visiting Kisumu side Lady Bucks meet Strathmore University, who wilted under second half pressure against Dynamites.
The only men’s fixture of the weekend will see, Kenyatta University take on ANU in what on paper looks like a cracking pairing. It will be redemption time for KU, who lost their last two games, going down 90-71 to Ulinzi Warriors and 69-77 to UoN ‘Terrorists’.
“We already know how our opponents play. We have harnessed a strategy to win. It’s going to be a tough match and we are not taking chances,” KU’s coach Caleb Osewe said.
Also on card this weekend are Lower Division matches to be played in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisii.
