Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Trade and Industrialization CAS David Osiany has congratulated Nyanza region leaders for receiving President Wiliam Ruto well. Ruto who has been on a two-day engagement tour in the region was received by governors, MPs and other leaders from the region.
Osiany said the warm welcome is a sign that Kenyans have moved on from politics. “Democracy does not envisage the banishing of those of contrary political opinions, but the acceptance of all. Indeed, that is the journey towards nationhood,” he tweeted.
Leaders who received Ruto include Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori) and Anyang Nyongó (Kisumu). MPs John Mbadi (nominated), Ong’ondo Were (Kasipul) and Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town) and others were also present.
Ruto also met Nyong’o and the Kisumu county administration at Kisumu State Lodge. On Saturday the President is expected to preside over the launch of the Blue Economy research hub at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of science and technology (JOOUST) in Siaya county.
Ahead of Ruto’s visit, several leaders from the region listed development concerns that he should address. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino wanted Ruto to focus on development in the Nyanza region, ahead of his planned visit.
Owino listed a number of issues that he wants Ruto to address on his two-day trip to the region. “KICOMI in Kisumu and Coffee Factories in Kisii County must be revived. Fish factories must be set up in Homabay and Kisumu counties,” he tweeted.
The lawmaker further urged Ruto to revive Chemelil, Muhoroni, and Sony Sugar factories. Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma also submitted a list of concerns in Homa Bay ahead of the president’s visit.
In a ten-point list, Kaluma said the residence needs infrastructure funding and land extension for Tom Mboya University further urging completion of the Kabunde Airstrip.
Other concerns of the people include; Water provision and sewerage system in Homa Bay Town, Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Elevation, HBTC TVET and Lake Victoria Ring Road. They also include roadworks in town and across the region, the Homa Bay Irrigation project, fish farming and blue economy and Electrification.
