Africa-Press – Kenya. Eldoret Falcons have recruited seven players ahead of the 2022/2023 season as they plot to return with a bang in the Kenya Women Premier League next season.

The Division One Zone B side missed out on promotion after finishing fourth behind champions Royal Starlets (Kitale), Gideon Girls, and Solasa Queens.

Club’s chairman Joshua Ariko said they signed the seven players to strengthen the team’s push for promotion after playing in the women’s second-tier league for two seasons.

“We are well prepared for the league and with our recent recruitment, we look forward to an exciting league,” said Ariko.

With the league set to kick off this weekend, the Eldoret-based club signed Mildred Nasimiyu and Beryl Barasa from neighbouring Solasa Queens and the trio of Betty Mwangi, Joyline Chepor and Beaty Akinyi from Eldoret Polytechnic. Goalkeeper Eunice was signed from Espodek in Eldoret.

According to the fixtures released by Football Kenya Federation, the teams have increased from eight to 16 and this weekend, the Falcons open their promotional encounter against their nemesis Nyuki Starlets at the Eldoret Showground.

They then take on hosts Bomet Starlets in the second match next weekend before hosting SEP Ladies in two weeks’ time. “As a team, we are looking forward to better results and to increasing our chances of playing in the top league,” he said.

Last season, Falcons remained unbeaten in the zone before losing their first match against now promoted side Royal Starlets in the last four encounters.

They went ahead to draw with Solasa and Nyuki, dropping to fourth place this missing out on promotion.

“The winners of each zone will get an automatic promotion while the runner-up will face off at the playoffs.
