Africa-Press – Kenya. Female teachers will now access more than 100 textbooks from primary to secondary schools, using their laptops. This is the outcome of a partnership between the Estonian Consulate, and the Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA).

The teachers, who need to be Kewota members will be viable to access laptop loans, which will be payable in 36 months. Kewota CEO Benta Opande urged teachers not to be left behind in the journey to digital migration.

“Teachers can not carry 100 textbooks to go to class, but only by a click of a button you will get all textbooks in the orange book,” Opande said.

The Association will allow members to apply for laptop loans, and choose a suitable payment schedule. The gadgets come with a pre-installed Teachers Service Commission website and curriculum designs with more than 100 textbooks.

“I know we still have teachers who go to the cyber to download pay slips, and even file returns, but now we have to move from that,” she said.

The triple program dubbed Tuinuane dada will see more than 85,000 Kewota members pay Sh1,080 to Sh2,500 per month. “For security purposes, if a member loses their laptop they just report and we shut it down,” she said.

The teachers will also get insurance covers that will take care of their expenses for motor accidents and personal accidents. Honorary Consul of Estonia Kadri Humal, urged the Kenyan government to emulate digitalization as it happens in Estonia.

She said in her country, education has been given more attention in the process of digitalization. “It’s great to now have digital learning content from the Kenyan curriculum available and on devices that teachers can afford,” she said. This, Kadri said will enable teachers to interact with learners easily and improve the delivery of curriculum content.
